Loading MNIST dataset in a scilab program

Hi !

I'm mostly new to scilab, and have a very little background in programmation (basic knowledge of C++, Python), and I'm tryng to creat for a ConvNet capable of recognising differents numbers using the MNIST dataset (http://yann.lecun.com/exdb/mnist/). To do this, I'm using this tutorial video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZOXOwYUVCqw&t=26s) for matlab that I'm trying to traduce to scilab (both to understand it and because I don't have a matlab license) but I can't manage to understand how to traduce the loadingMNISTImages and Labels function that he shows at around 14:10 and 15:30... Especially the fopen function which equivalent in scilab seems to be mget, but uses different argument... Anyone can help?
