Simple open-hardware PLCs I've had this idea in mind for a while.

I've had this idea in mind for a while. I was thinking of designing a cheap PLC similar (or almost identical) to Schneider's Zelio, Siemens Logo, Omron's Zen... the hardware would be relatively simple but could be useful for home projects and small businesses. I saw a few similar projects online but non of them really convinced me.

My question would be:

  • How eager are you to get a simple, basic, open-hardware, open-software PLC?

  • What features would you like it to have?

Some quick thoughts on tentative specs:

  • 4-10 inputs

  • 4-10 outputs

  • 4 analog outputs

  • few timers

  • (possibly) ladder programming from the device itself using an LCD and few buttons as the interface

  • USB-to-serial PC connectivity for programming, debugging and monitoring

  • additional flash memory for data logging etc
